As the new NFL season is just on the horizon there is one team that i cannot grasp onto and their name is the Arizona Cardinals. I love Ken Whisenhunt and I have watched their personnel and draft moves over the past couple years and i have been impressed but it did not translate onto the field. Are the Arizona Cardinals…the “Pittsburgh Steelers West” or just another bad NFC West team? I know for one thing that they will be better. The QB rotation the last couple seasons post the Kurt Warner era has been awful. Derek Anderson, John Skelton, Max Hall, Matt Leinart, you get the picture.

Who are the Arizona Cadinals?

Kevin Kolb is good but how good. Will good QB play take the pressure off of an over worked defense? Will Beanie Wells run hard or is he an official bust. Too bad about the injury to rookie running back Ryan Williams, he was just about to pass Wells on the depth chart. So really what can we do with this team? The first 4 weeks of the season should tell us all we need to know. All winnable games. Week 1 At home vs Carolina (should be favored, but leaning towards the Panthers there, better running game and defense) on the road next against the Redskins (get the skins early, another team that is a mystery) at Seattle (i hate the Seahawks, Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley that is the plan for Pete Carroll), and then home to the Giants (always a tough trip to the west coast). Lets wait and see until after week 4 before we know for sure.

Here is a brief look at the 2011 new NFL coaches. More quality reference material. Expect a slow start for most of these guys but we will track the progress though the season as there may be good betting opportunities later in the season as some of these team start to progress.

New Head Coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Leslie Frazier

Jim Harbaugh – 49ers
Harbaugh, is a coach best known for his ability to develop quarterbacks and his “pro-style” west coast offense. This also means a bigger focus on tight ends and running backs in the passing game. Vernon Davis and Frank Gore will be featured in this offense.

Hue Jackson – Raiders
Jackson took over the play calling duties from head coach Tom Cable last season and had great success. He doubled the team’s previous season’s production and it helped Darren McFadden have a stellar breakout season.

John Fox – Broncos
John Fox takes over for Josh McDaniels, the Broncos have a ton of work to do in learning a completely new system. McDaniels focused on passing but Fox is much more conservative and loves to run the ball and play good defense. This means that Brandon Lloyd won’t get the same opportunities he did last season and Knowshon Moreno should rack up a lot of yards.

Ron Rivera – Panthers
Rivera, replaces Fox in Carolina. Fox is a defensive minded coach so the offense will largely rest on the shoulders of new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. Chudzinski, a former tight end himself, was the Chargers’ tight end coach last season and in 2005 and served as the Browns’offensive coordinator. The Panthers have three young quarterbacks, but expect to see Jimmy Clausen start the season with Cam Newton taking over mid-way through the season.

Pat Shurmur – Browns
Shurmur is from the Mike Holmgren tree. Another west coast offense disciple. This means more focus on the running backs and tight ends in the passing game. Peyton Hillis may lose some carries to Montario Hardesty this season after Hardesty missed all of 2010. Hardesty is that good. Tight end Ben Watson also figures to play much more heavily into the offensive scheme.

Jason Garrett – Cowboys
Garrett took over a interim head coach last season and has been the Cowboys offensive coordinator since 2007 so no real change here. Expect the Cowboys to rely heavily on Tony Romo and their receivers plus a ground game led by Felix Jones. Also expect big things from Dez Bryant this season as he and Austin Miles will be dangerous.

Leslie Frazier – Vikings
Frazier took over mid-season for Brad Childress as an interim coach. The defensive minded Frazier and new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave will work on the offense. Adrian Peterson will be an even more important part of the Vikings’ offensive strategy. Musgrave is also a great quarterback coach. Look for Donovan McNabb to start the season and Ponder to take over mid-way through the season.

Here is some great reference material heading into the NCAA football season. Career offensive line starts combined per team which includes returning starters and the amount of games they have started combined.
